Andrew C. McCarthy at National Review, May 2018, walked the released Strzok-Page texts as the Trump-Russia file opened. He identified “Bill” as Bill Priestap, “at the time the assistant director of the Counterintelligence Division,” the official Strzok was about to serve as deputy. A July 28, 2016, text in that write-up has Strzok asking Page for “any input/guidance before we talk to Bill at 3” after a discussion with “Andy” — McCabe.

That is reporting on texts the government released. It is not a finding that Priestap authored the texts. It is not a finding that a text is a crime. The OIG later put Priestap, not Strzok, as the official who made the opening decision.

The Daily Caller later published Crossfire Hurricane leak and text pieces that also name Priestap. Same label: reporting.
